One by one, the Dodgers took out the Mets and then took out the Yankees, breaking hearts in Queens and The Bronx like they did seven decades ago in Brooklyn by bolting for the West Coast.
Wednesday night marked the final game of the baseball season in New York, and so ends a really fun and unexpected year for both fan bases.
Of course, the lasting memory for many Yankees fans now will be their team’s hot-mess, mistake-filled meltdown in the fifth inning of Game 5, when they coughed up all of their 5-0 lead and committed two errors and one huge brain cramp to allow the Dodgers to tie the game.
The Yankees got off to a tremendous start with Aaron Judge finally belting his first home run of the series and making a wall-crashing catch, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Giancarlo Stanton also going deep and Gerrit Cole not allowing a hit over the first four innings.
