During a recent interview, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel said he was not “mentally prepared” for former President Donald Trump to win the election and retake the White House.  Sitting down for an interview with MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, Kimmel explained that he is currently unprepared for the possible outcomes of the upcoming election, which is less than two weeks away.

Speaking to the MSNBC host who asked if he looked forward to not talking about Trump on a daily basis, Kimmel recounted a conversation he had with his wife, in which he said, “I was telling my wife, I don’t feel like I’m mentally prepared for the possibility of a loss. I’m not ready. I have to get there where I’m ready for either scenario.”

Kimmel further noted that he needs to develop a game plan of how he will speak about the election results. “You’re going to have to be up the next morning talking about what happened or what didn’t happen and what message do you want to send to people who watch the show. Most of my shows aren’t important. That one seems a little bit more important than others because I do have a lot of people kind of asking me what I think and going along with what I think, and it’s a big responsibility,” he added.

The late-night host also addressed claims from critics who suggest he suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).  “I’m an optimistic person, I’m not hysterical, I laugh when people say, ‘Oh, you’ve got Trump derangement syndrome.’ If you’re a reasonable person you should have Trump derangement syndrome. And by the way, I think he has derangement syndrome about us too,” he said.

Mocking Trump as “dangerous” and “stupid,” Kimmel continued, “I think what we’re forgetting, I keep forgetting it, and I have to keep reminding myself, he’s not just running for president, he’s running to stay out of prison and that’s a pretty powerful thing. He is literally running for his freedom.”

The American Tribune recently reported on other news regarding how Americans would react to a possible Trump victory, where political journalist Mark Halperin predicted that it would lead to the “greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.”  Halperin outlined how he believes Trump returning to the White House would lead to a substantial deterioration in social cohesion across the country.

“I say this not flippantly. I think it will be the cause of the greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.” He elaborated that many will reject the direction of the nation under Trump. “Tens of millions of people will question their connection to the nation … to other human beings … to their vision to what their future for them and their children could be like. And that will require an enormous amount of access to mental health professionals,” he said.

Halperin continued, “I’m being a hundred percent serious,” suggesting that it would “lead to trauma in the workplace, alcoholism, broken marriages.” Illustrating how disastrous it would be, Halperin added, “And it will be sustained, unprecedented, and hideous.”
