A report published Thursday by the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement revealed that 700,000 people had had their cases dismissed, terminated, or administratively closed, allowing them not to face consequences, including deportation.

“Through administrative maneuvering at both the Justice Department and DHS, the Biden-Harris Administration has already ensured that nearly 1 million illegal aliens can remain in the United States without the possibility of deportation—and that trend shows no sign of stopping,” stated the report, which rounded up the 700,000 to 1 million.

In fiscal 2023, which ran from October 2022 through September 2023, the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review reported that it had completed 109,089 cases even though a judge had not issued a final decision on whether the asylum claim or immigration charge would be granted or upheld.

From October 2023 through June 2024, the DOJ had already marked 109,568 cases as being completed.

By contrast, fewer than 13,000 cases were reported as not adjudicated, or officially decided, in all of 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The cases were shuttered as a result of Department of Homeland Security prosecutors failing to appear at scheduled court appearances and failing to file the proper paperwork with the courts, according to the committee’s findings.

“Instead of actually adjudicating illegal aliens’ cases based on the merits of aliens’ claims for relief—such as whether an alien has a valid and successful asylum claim—immigration judges under the Biden-Harris Administration have been tasked with rubberstamping case dismissals, case closures, and case terminations, all of which allow illegal aliens to remain in the United States without immigration consequences,” the report stated. “This sort of quiet amnesty has become a staple of the Biden-Harris Administration’s immigration courts.”

Since the 2021 fiscal year began a month before President Joe Biden was elected to office, more than 3.7 million new immigration cases have been added to court dockets — meaning 3.7 million immigrants were released into the country from the border and await a court appearance.

Immigrants who enter the country illegally may be removed at the border or released into the country and can claim asylum during that process.

In 2023, asylum claims had a 14% approval rate, leaving 86% of asylum -eekers claims denied.

The committee vowed to use its oversight authority over the Department of Justice, which houses the nation’s immigration courts, to track the administration’s immigration actions.

The House is controlled by Republicans, but that could change after the Nov. 5 election if Democrats win the majority of seats in either chamber.
