CNN panels of mostly left-wing pundits blasted Kamala Harris’ performance at the network’s town hall Wednesday evening, pointing out that she constantly evaded questions by changing the subject to Donald Trump, or by giving “circular,”  “word salad” answers devoid of meaningful content.

“The thing that would concern me is when she doesn’t want to answer a question her habit is to kind of go to ‘word salad city,’ and she did that on a couple of answers,” commented former Obama advisor David Axelrod. “One was on Israel. Anderson asked a direct question, ‘Would you be stronger on Israel than Trump?’ And there was a seven-minute answer, but none of it related to the question he was asking,” the Democrat noted.

“On certain questions like that, on immigration, I thought she missed an opportunity because she would acknowledge no concerns about any of the administration’s policies. And that’s a mistake. Sometimes you have to concede things and she didn‘t concede much,” Axelrod said.

The town hall with undecided voters was held in Pennsylvania and moderated by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.

Former Obama official Van Jones argued that the Harris he knows is more of a “problem-solver” than a communicator and suggested that the criticism against her performance was unfair.

He lamented that former President Donald Trump “gets to be lawless, she has to be flawless”

Republican political commentator David Urban disagreed, saying Republicans would happily pay CNN to keep the Harris town hall going for another hour just to “let her keep non-answering the questions.”

He quipped that Harris “participated in a one-person debate last night and she lost.”

“She was asked direct questions, and she provided very circular answers,” he said. “Anderson asked her specific and direct questions and she didn’t provide an answer to them.

Urban argued that Harris didn’t help herself at all because people were looking for specific answers to questions. and that saying “‘Donald Trump is bad’ is not gonna get you into the White House.”

In a separate CNN panel, Republican commentator Scott Jennings argued that Harris “doesn’t have to be flawless, but she has to give you something.”

Jennings quipped that Harris is “a true double threat” because she is “terrible on her feet when she gets unexpected questions and simultaneously, she can’t even answer the expected questions!”

“It’s nothing, nothing, nothing. You’d think she’s be prepared to do this by now!” he exclaimed.

Jennings noted that when Harris was asked to divulge her greatest weakness, mistakes she’s made, the first law she would pass, and policy differences between her and Joe Biden, she had “nothing.”

“Over and over and over, empty, empty, empty!” Jennings exclaimed. “If she were an animal, she’s be a duck-billed platitude.”

CNN anchor Dana Bash revealed that Democrat insiders told her following the town hall that they thought Harris had failed to seal the deal.

“What I‘m hearing from people who I have been talking to, and that is that if her goal was to close the deal, they‘re not sure she did that. And, you know, some people have asked, is she being held to a different standard? Maybe. But that‘s maybe the world that she‘s living in. And on the question of who she is, people are understanding that a little bit more,” she said.

Bash, known for her liberal, anti-Trump bias, admitted that Harris failed to provide answers to basic questions.

“But what she will do? The question about her legislative priorities, name one, there wasn‘t one. You know, some more of her personality and her sort of character questions about your weaknesses or what mistakes did you make, not necessarily the answers there,” she said. Despite this, Bash argued that Harris appearing in front of voters and talking to them directly was somehow a “win” for her.

Jake Tapper noted that Harris tended to focus more on her opponent than her own policies.

“She focused a lot more on Donald Trump, I think it’s fair to say, than she did on many specifics in terms of what she would do as president,” he said.

Tapper pointed out that because Trump has been in the spotlight for a long time, people already know who he is and are trying to find out who she is.

“I think after eight years of Donald Trump, people are aware of Donald Trump’s persona, his proclivity for controversy, his potential to offend and the like. And I wonder if you think maybe she did too much,” he said.

CNN anchor John King argued that Harris should make attacking Trump a priority and praised her answers that related to her personal life and alleged religious faith. But he admitted that she fell short in trying to connect her “brand” to her policies.

“Where I think she fails sometimes is to connect it more to her policies,” he said, suggesting Harris should embody some of former President Bill Clinton’s persona. “He had a brand where he could look people in the eye and say, ‘I‘m on your side. I‘m fighting for the middle class,’ right? Putting people first. That’s the connection she has to make.”

Abby Phillip noted that Harris avoided specifics when pressed by some of the undecided voters, and that probably came across as “evasive.”

“The thing I think that kind of got her tripped up at certain times was when certain voters were asking to drill down, actually, on some policy, and she didn‘t want to go there, didn‘t want to get into some specifics,” Phillip said. “But it’s tough for her because I think that that comes across as evasive to some voters… They just want to know, ‘Are my taxes going to go up if I make $500,000 a year or not?’ It’s very tricky for her.”

King asked five undecided voters from Pennsylvania who were at the town hall if Harris had persuaded them to vote for her. Only two out of the five said that they would now be voting for Harris.

Conservative radio talk show host Dan Bongino opined that the town hall was a “disaster” for Harris, and provided a compilation of the cringiest moments.
