House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced the expanded investigation via social media. “It has long been suspected that leading online Democratic Party fundraising platforms may be used in a fraudulent manner,” Johnson wrote on X. “Examples are now being brought forward to show that small-dollar donations have been made in the name of U.S. citizens who did NOT authorize or have any knowledge of the transactions.”

Republicans believe that foreign adversaries have become more adept at exploiting digital fundraising tools. The investigation, led by the House Administration Committee, seeks to uncover whether funds from four foreign adversaries—Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and China—were funneled through ActBlue during the 2024 election cycle, according to Just The News. While such allegations are not new, the scope and urgency of this probe indicate a deeper concern over the integrity of campaign finance.

The website, “CheckMyDonations.com”, was launched to allow Americans to verify if unauthorized donations were made in their names. Johnson urged citizens to use the site, highlighting the need for transparency in political contributions. “These are fraudulent, ILLEGAL practices that CANNOT be tolerated,” Johnson wrote, stressing the critical importance of the investigation.
