With less than two weeks left in the election cycle, Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) has been struggling to connect with two crucial demographics that have propped up the Democratic coalition: Young voters and minority voters.

As Breitbart reports, Harris has not yet reached the same levels of turnout among younger voters, minority voters, and other members of the Left’s coalition compared to Joe Biden’s campaign four years earlier. Her campaign struggles were detailed in a recent long-form article in Politico, which notes that “even some young voters who say they will vote for Democrats in other races here are not supporting Harris, recent polling suggests.”

“In the most recent New York Times/Siena College poll, Trump leads Harris by 5 points in Arizona, even as Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego leads GOP Senate hopeful Kari Lake by 7 points,” the article explains.

In an attempt to explain the disparity between the presidential race and down-ballot races, left-wing activist Jacob Marson, executive director of Keep Arizona Blue, admitted that while young voters still generally don’t support President Trump, they also feel disenfranchised with Harris compared to their previous support for Biden.

“They’ve been disenfranchised with the political system. They’re not into candidates,” said Marson. “They’ve been told things, and they don’t see a difference in their lives.”

The disillusion with Harris is compounded by a decrease in turnout among young voters. Early voting data collected thus far reveals that, currently, out of 21.5 million early votes that have been nationwide, just 6% were cast by voters between the ages of 18-29, while 7% were cast by voters in the 30-39 bloc. In every state as well as nationally, the clear majority of early votes, 54%, have been cast by voters over the age of 65.

Elsewhere in Harris’ coalition, Muslim voters and Arab-American voters are abandoning the Democratic Party in droves this year. This phenomenon is especially prominent in the swing state of Michigan, worth 15 electoral votes. In the 2024 Democratic presidential primaries, back when Joe Biden was still the presumptive nominee, a staggering 13% of Democrats in the state voted for the “Uncommitted” option out of protest of Biden’s handling of the war in Israel. This amounted to just over 100,000 voters, and was driven predominantly by Muslims.

Recent polling data suggests that this protest movement has not abated. A poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in September showed that in Michigan, a plurality of Muslims support Green Party candidate Jill Stein, at 40%; Trump is the second-highest candidate among Muslims in the state, at 18%, with Harris in third at just 12%. Stein also has a plurality of Muslim support in the state of Arizona, with 35%, and Wisconsin, at 44%.

An even more recent poll conducted by Arab News and YouGov shows a narrow plurality of Arab-Americans preferring President Trump over Harris, at 45% and 43%, respectively. This trend of more Muslims supporting the Republican candidate, unprecedented in modern history, has been attributed to President Trump’s vows to end the war in the Middle East.
