With just 13 days left until the 2024 election, Democrats have lost significant ground to Republicans in voter registration in one crucial battleground state.

As reported by Fox News, the state of Pennsylvania currently has 9,088,583 registered voters as of the end of the registration period on Monday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State. Of that total, 3,971,607 are Democrats while 3,673,783 are Republicans. Another 1.4 million are registered as independent or with a third party.

With a difference of just 297,824, or about 4% total, the Democrats’ margin has shrunk considerably since 2020. In that year, there were slightly more registered voters statewide, at 9,090,962. But there were approximately 4.2 million Democrats compared to 3.5 million Republicans, an advantage of 685,818. In the end, Joe Biden apparently won the state by just 80,555 votes, amounting to a 1.17% margin.

This amounts to a net loss of 257,281 Democratic voters, cutting their previous margin by more than half.

In a statement responding to the release of the data, the Trump/Vance campaign declared that “Kamala Camp HQ is no doubt asking what the heck their 400 paid staffers and 50 offices in Pennsylvania have been doing this whole time, since their only output seems to be drumming up some meaningless stories about office openings and their supposedly well-oiled ground game.”

In the 4-year period between 2020 and 2024, more than twice as many Democrats in Pennsylvania left their party as Republicans, with 54,668 registered Democrats changing their party registration compared to just 25,634 Republicans.

This trend was noted in several of the most crucial counties, including Philadelphia, where 18,928 Democrats left their party compared to just 3,401 Republicans. In Allegheny County, where the state’s second-largest city of Pittsburgh is located, 6,564 Democrats changed their affiliation, against 2,202 Republicans who left their party.

The Keystone State is the largest of all the swing states in the 2024 election, worth 19 electoral votes. It is universally considered a must-win state for both former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, and it is understood that the winner of Pennsylvania will most likely win the election.

Pennsylvania will also see a critical election to the U.S. Senate in less than two weeks, with incumbent Senator Bob Casey (D-Penn.) facing off against Republican challenger David McCormick (R-Penn.). Casey stunned many political observers last week by running a campaign ad in which he openly admitted to being supportive of President Trump’s trade policies; this move has been widely interpreted as a signal that Senator Casey believes President Trump will win the state.
