On Friday’s edition of Washington Week with The Atlantic, it was The New Yorker’s Susan Glasser who dished out the most inflammatory anti-Trump statements, trying to literally scare up Democratic votes as the Harris campaign lists less than three weeks before the presidential election.

Glasser could not believe it's possible now that Trump's going to be "returned to power despite everything": 

SUSAN GLASSER:  And what’s remarkable right now is that there is at least an even chance, if not better than an even chance, of that happening. And yet this vibe that you’re talking about, you know, we've lost the summer of joy. It seems to me we’ve moved way beyond that. Kamala Harris is no longer making fun of Donald Trump and saying he’s weird. She's saying he`s a threat to democracy, as we know it. And Trump has escalated his rhetoric in a way that seems determined to prove the point that she’s making.

FRANKLIN FOER, The Atlantic: Just how do you account for that apathy?

GLASSER: Trump fatigue, I guess, is a real thing. We’ve been overwhelmed with a fugue of lies and misinformation and scandal and disinformation for so long, we all know people who've just tuned out of that until perhaps just now. Democrats, I have noticed a very marked shift just in the last couple of weeks, a dawning realization that a Trump second term is a true possibility. My question is, is this realization coming too late for them in the election cycle?

After saying “What`s really remarkable about that is that it`s a strategy that relies on people ignoring Donald Trump and his inability to communicate even basic information,” pointing to his talk at the Chicago Economic Club where he threw out numbers on hypothetical tariffs he was threatening, Glasser whined about “the world’s richest man” Elon Musk’s support for Trump and “the influence of money in politics,” especially “a small handful of the wealthiest people of the world” supporting Trump, as if the Kamala Harris campaign wasn’t outspending Trump by a large margin.

After Foer cited the former president's infamous statement about having “radical left lunatics…handled, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military,” Glasser went full Soviet (which may be preferable to going full “fascist,” as Harris herself recently did when describing Trump).

GLASSER: That Donald Trump is the man who spent the entire last year of his presidency trying to use the military against American people in the streets exercising their First Amendment rights. Where Donald Trump has escalated the rhetoric, and, by the way, he's often used the language of pure dictatorship when he has called his enemies vermin, enemies of the people, this is the language, that is resonant to anyone who studied Russian history. It comes straight from the Soviet past….

Speaking of "escalating rhetoric," claiming Trump somehow spent every day of 2020 trying to use soldiers against Americans speaking freely is a whopper. He talked about sending in troops to rioting scenes after George Floyd's death. That didn't last all year.

Glasser even sounded exasperated that Trump might once-again support Israel if he is reelected: "Come on! Like we’re pretending as if Donald Trump has a meaningful position on the world. What he did in his first term in office was outsource American policy to Netanyahu and the far right in Israel…."

The same awful “far right” that’s eliminated three major terrorist heads in three months.
