Vice President Kamala Harris claimed she would never say anything negative about Catholics in a video that played during the annual Al Smith Dinner Thursday night — but Harris and the Biden administration have a pattern of targeting Catholics.

She was the first presidential candidate since Walter Mondale to skip the Catholic charities event, the Daily Caller News Foundation originally reported. While Harris submitted a pre-recorded video, President Trump attended the dinner in person.

The video featured former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Molly Shannon as a Catholic school girl in the skit, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported. “I would never do that, no matter where I was,” Harris replied. “That would be like criticizing Detroit – in Detroit.”

However, Harris previously targeted Catholic judicial nominees when she was a senator.

In 2019, then-California Sen. Harris teamed up with Hawaii Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono to grill then-judicial appointee Brian Buescher over his membership with the Knight of Columbus (KoC), the Daily Caller News Foundation reported.

Then-Sen. Harris asked Buescher if he agreed with prior statements of Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, including one slamming abortion as “the killing of the innocent on a massive scale,” according to the Catholic News Agency.

She also grilled Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh during their confirmation hearings, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported. She specifically targeted Kavanaugh regarding his sexual assault allegations, although a Senate Judiciary Committee report revealed they were unsubstantiated.

The Catholic News Agency also reported that Harris supports a number of issues which contradict Catholic teaching, including the national legalization of abortion.

In 2020, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Little Sisters of the Poor — a group of nuns who fought against the Obama administration’s contraception mandate in the Affordable Care Act, Twitchy reported.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act forced employers to provide employees with health insurance to support birth control, but the Little Sisters of the Poor and Hobby Lobby were not exempt, The Daily Signal reported.

In fact, the Biden-Harris administration’s Department of Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Xavier Becerra previously sued to strip the nuns of religious exemptions when he was California’s attorney general, the Catholic News Agency noted.

Last year, whistleblower and former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin leaked an agency memo, revealing the FBI’s Richmond Field Office was targeting “radical traditional Catholics (RTCs),” the Daily Caller previously reported.

The FBI told the Caller in 2023 that it would conduct an “internal review.”

It’s not only intelligence agencies that appear to be targeting people of faith — the DOJ has also targeted many pro-life Catholics for protesting abortion clinics under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.

The Biden-Harris DOJ was responsible for over a quarter of all prosecutions under the law’s 30-year history, the Daily Caller first reported. Notably, FBI agents raided the homes of Christian pro-life activists Paul Vaughn and Mark Houck during the administration.

Additionally, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center reportedly issued a “cease and desist” order to a group of Catholic priests days before Holy Week last year, according to the Archdiocese for the Military Services. The government’s order told Catholic priests to “cease any religious services,” the Archdiocese’s press release stated.

Multiple Catholics and Catholic organizations slammed Harris for her virtual appearance at the Al Smith dinner, stating it was evidence of “anti-Catholic prejudice.”
