"The View" host Alyssa Farah Griffin said on Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris was right to skip the Catholic charity Al Smith dinner event in order to campaign in Wisconsin. Other hosts attacked the dinner on Friday after Trump gave a speech while Kamala Harris skipped out on the charity event. Joy Behar claimed that the charity event was helping to "normalize" him as a candidate.

"For the last few days, the Trump campaign has been out there, like, ‘Kamala Harris is skipping this Catholic event.’ Well, she was in the swing state of Wisconsin. And I would argue that's a better use of her time than showing up to a Catholic event using a racist slur about President Obama, swearing throughout it, making crass jokes and insulting people," Griffin said, adding that "a lot of it didn't land" despite him getting many laughs throughout the speech.

During the show, Joy Behar also attacked the Catholic organization for inviting Trump, "Thank you, Cardinal Dolan, for this wonderful moment. So, is this Catholic Church event normalizing a guy who’s already broken 11 of the 10 commandments?"

The X account of “The View” posted the snippet with Behar, with the caption, “CRITICS SLAM AL SMITH DINNER FOR NORMALIZING TRUMP,” for the show’s coverage.

Sunny Hostin responded, saying that it is a good tradition to have presidential candidates attend the dinner, then added, "But sometimes it's good to break tradition." Hostin then added that it was inappropriate for the Catholic event to bring a "felon, a liar, [and] a serial cheater" to the event.

Later on, host Ana Navarro said that she "found it offensive" that Trump would be there because Catholic Charities does a lot of work with Hispanic immigrants and added that she was "glad Kamala Harris wasn't there."

The last time a presidential candidate declined an invite to the dinner was with Walter Mondale who only won a single state in his race against Ronald Reagan.
