Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been a sight to behold for years, but this year’s was a bit different.

For the first time, two trans models walked the runway as the company tries to promote inclusivity in its marketing.

One of the trans models, Valentina Sampaio from Brazil, spoke exclusively to People about the history-making appearance on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk.

The 27-year-old model started working with the lingerie brand in 2019. On Tuesday, Sampaio and Alex Consani made history as the first two trans models to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

“This moment is one I will cherish for a lifetime,” Sampaio earlier Tuesday. “Today, the Victoria’s Secret family has shown the world that being trans is just as exceptional and beautiful as anyone else on that runway.”

“Inclusivity is crucial to the world we’re building, and I’m honored to walk with pride, love and the hope of inspiring the next generation. Thank you, Victoria’s Secret, for making a long-held dream come true,” Sampaio said.

Earlier this month, Sampaio announced on Instagram about being a part of the fashion show.

“I’m over the Moon… I’M IN!!! ❤️‍🔥 See you guys at the @victoriassecret Fashion Show 2024,” Sampaio posted.

The show returned after six years as officials vowed more diversity and inclusion than before. 

Victoria’s Secret officials announced on Instagram in May, “We’ve read the comments and heard you,” per the post. “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is BACK and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love—the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more! Stay tuned…it only gets more iconic from here. ”

But not everyone was as enthused.

“Make Sexy Women Great Again,” one posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“I could care less that they’re including plus size models. Go ahead. But stop trying to insert men into women’s spaces. I don’t care how passable they are,” another wrote.
