Ana Kasparian, a veteran progressive political commentator and longtime co-host of “The Young Turks” web show and podcast, recently revealed that she left the Democratic Party after a traumatic experience.

Kasparian made the announcement during an appearance on the “Keeping Real Podcast” with Jillian Michaels, a California native who left the Democratic Party after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Young Turks” co-host and producer explained that she was the victim of a serious crime while walking her dog in 2022. “It was not quite dark yet, but the sun was setting. As I’m walking my dog, I see these two guys that were, they were just kind of like moving around weirdly, you know, they seem kind of manic and their clothes were tattered. So I just, I knew that they were probably homeless,” Kasparian said. “And I also knew that they’re probably on something just based on like the twitchy way they were acting. But living in LA, I mean, I’ve, there’s homeless people everywhere, right? So I’ve never had problems. I didn’t think anything of it.”

Kasparian then explained that she was sexually assaulted by the homeless men while attending to her dog. “And I didn’t know what to do. I was terrified, I didn’t have a weapon on me, I had no way of defending myself, I didn’t know how far it was gonna go, because it’s two guys, I’m by myself with my little dog,” she said. The progressive commentator further explained that she felt helpless in the moment, knowing that there was nothing she could do against two grown men in that situation.

“And it was awful. And it was really taking a toll on my mental health because I have to walk my dog, right? So at least two or three times a day, I’m going outside kind of scared. And so I opened up about this on the show, not really thinking much of it, and before I knew it, I’m starting to get these messages, and it’s like really, really harsh stuff,” Kasparian continued.

The messages, which mostly came from leftists, were more upset with Kasparian’s framing of her assault than the assault itself. She was accused of portraying homeless people in a negative way, while others accused her of being “racist” even though she never described the race of her attackers. “And so when they started accusing me of being racist, I’m like, ‘wait a minute, why are you assuming that the people who did this are..,'” Kasparian continued, drawing an “of course” from Michaels.

“And that woke me up.”

Kasparian’s shift is notable given her position on one of the longest running progressive web shows. Throughout the majority of her career, Kasparian has been a fierce critic of Republican policies and leaders, especially former President Donald Trump.

She had been drifting away from left-wing opinions in the months leading up to the formal announcement, however. Back in April, Kasparian went nuclear over inner-city DEI policies that take precedence over the fact that large percentages of students are well below proficiency in reading, writing and math abilities. “Don’t feed me this BS about like, ‘oh, we did mediation,’ okay? You can take your mediation and shove it up your *ss. Stop wasting taxpayer money and playing with these kids’ lives by engaging in your cutesy little culture war games” the liberal host said.

Kasparian has also criticized the Democratic Party for covering up President Biden’s mental decline and hard shift on foreign policy, as evidenced by the party’s embrace of Dick Cheney and other Iraq War architects.
