Jerry Jones went into full meltdown mode as he fielded questions during his regular weekly radio interview in Dallas on Tuesday, appearing to threaten to have the hosts fired over their line of questioning.

Jones, 82, made his appearance on “Shan & RJ” on Audacy’s 105.3 The Fan two days after the Cowboys (3-3) were embarrassed at home by the Lions, 47-9, and the longtime owner grew irate over a question about the team’s offseason approach to upgrading the roster, with some fans feeling the team didn’t do enough.

“This is not your job. Your job isn’t to let me go over all the reasons that I did something and I’m sorry that I did it. That’s not your job. I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions. I’m not kidding,” Jones fumed at Shan Shariff, R.J. Choppy and Bobby Belt. “You’re not going to figure out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you are, or any five or 10 like you, you need to come to this [NFL] meeting I’m going to today with 32 teams here, you’re geniuses.

“You really think you’re gonna sit here with a microphone and tell me all of the things that I’ve done wrong without going over the rights? Listen, we both know we’re talking to a lot of great fans, a lot of great listeners. And I am very sorry for what happened out there Sunday. I’m sick about what happened Sunday.”

The Cowboys did not make major upgrades after Jones declared they were “all in” on 2024, though on Tuesday he mentioned the massive contract extensions for quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb as meeting the definition of “all in.”

Jones said he remembers the criticisms of the team’s offseason “very well.”

“One of the stupidest things I’ve ever done, that anybody had ever analyzed was buy the Cowboys. It was an idiot that did that,” Jones said on the radio show, referencing criticisms of him purchasing the team in 1989 for $140 million.

“So idiot things can turn into good decisions. Smart things can turn into bad decisions. The facts are that when you make one, you don’t really know if it’s going to be good or not at the time. So let’s go ahead, I’m trying to answer your questions, man. You want some conversation this morning, you’re getting it.”

The Cowboys are allowing 28 points per game, the third-worst mark in the NFL, and their minus-6 turnover differential is tied for third-worst in the league.

Prescott has eight touchdown passes and six interceptions.

Jones reiterated he has no plans on firing head coach Mike McCarthy, saying he’ll never make another in-season coaching change.

The radio hosts, however, are on the hot seat.
