FACT CHECK: Did Taylor Swift Refuse To Perform At Hurricane Relief Event?

A post shared on social media purports that Singer Taylor Swift has refused to perform with other musicians for a hurricane relief event.

Verdict: False

The claim stems from a satire outlet.

Fact Check:

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas requested Congress fund FEMA while on CBS, Fox News reported. Mayorkas claimed that there is enough funding to address the recovery effort of the current disasters, but he warned that “hurricane season is not over” and more funds are required in the event of another event.

A post shared on Twitter, claims that several famous artists have agreed to perform but Swift refused. The artists mentioned include several country musicians.

The post reads, “Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, and Jelly Roll will play a benefit concert for Hurricane victims – Taylor Swift said ‘no.'”

The claim is inaccurate. The claim appears to have originated from a satirical account called America’s last line of defense. The account’s bio identifies as satire reading, “The flagship of the ALLOD network of trollery. Nothing on this page is real.”

The account is affiliated with the satirical news outlet called Dunning-Kruger-times. The about section of the website also features a parody disclaimer, “Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real.”

Swift has donated $5 million to Feeding America to aid in their effort to supply help to victims of the hurricanes, The Associated Press reported. The CEO said the organization is “incredibly grateful” and it will go towards getting food and clean water, among other things, to the communities affected. (RELATED: No, Kid Rock Did Not Bring ‘Millions In Supplies’ To North Carolina After Hurricane Helene)

This is not the first time misinformation surrounding the hurricanes has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that a montage showed footage of Hurricane Milton.
