Country star Brantley Gilbert was recently met with an unexpected surprise during a show in Tupelo, Mississippi last week. Shortly after he kicked off his set, Gilbert paused the performance after discovering his wife had gone into labor in their tour bus. However, the singer would eventually return onstage to inform the crowd of the good news and finish the concert.
Gilbert recounted the incident on social media, “So last night might have been the craziest night of my life.” He added, “Watching such an amazing woman do such an amazing thing is something I’ll never forget.” The singer continued, “Thank you to our road family for rallying around us, Brittany Thornton for helping us bring this little dude into the world, Tupelo, Mississippi for showing us mad love and support, and most of all … Amber Gilbert, for letting me love you and showing me EXACTLY how incredibly strong a woman can be. I love you.”
“She’s a freaking savage,” Gilbert said, describing his wife after she delivered their third child on the tour bus. “Well, I’m going to go finish this show, and I’ll FaceTime you after,” the artist told his mother over FaceTime, before going back onstage to finish the show. “We got a baby,” he told the crowd upon his return, to which he was met with a roaring cheer.
Gilbert and his wife, Amber, sat down with Fox News to given an interview about the experience. Former White House Press Secretary under the Trump administration, Kayleigh McEnany, asked the Gilberts about the sudden offstage emergency, “Did you ever think it would be your wife giving birth?” The country star responded, “No, I can’t say this was on my bingo card.”
Fortunately, they were expecting Amber to give birth relatively soon as they had a midwife nearby. “It was, it was kind of crazy. We actually had a midwife out with us. We were, we were prepared if it were to happen, but she had had a great night the night before, so we thought we had a week or so left, and we didn’t,” he added.
When asked about her reaction to her water breaking unexpectedly soon, Amber told McEnany, “Oh, gosh, I don’t know what I was thinking at that moment, other than I have to get this baby out. I went from reading a book in the bed to calling the midwife in a matter of minutes. So I was just ready to get the show on my show on the road, not his.”
When asked if it was planned for him to return to the stage after the birth, Gilbert said, “Well, we had, we had kind of joked about it. We didn’t really think in a million years it would happen during the show. And I had joked that I was going to go back, if it happened during the show, that I was going to go back, like, hold the baby up on the thrush, like, Lion King. You know, obviously that didn’t happen, but, but you know, when the time came, you know, my tour manager came in. He said, hey, if we start the next 15 minutes, we can finish. And I looked at her, and she Well, first, she said, really. And then, you know, she’s had this, this look of understanding, and it was like, You need to go.”
