On Sunday, the National Border Patrol Council, the union for the US border patrol endorsed former President Donald Trump. During a rally in Prescott Valley, Arizona, Trump told the crowd that he was "honored to receive…the endorsement," calling it "a great honor."
The former president then invited the president of the National Border Patrol Council, Paul Perez, onto the stage, who told the crowd, "If we allow border czar Harris to win this election, every city, every community in this great country is going to go to hell. The untold millions of people unvetted, who she has allowed into this country that are committing murders, rapes, robberies, burglaries, and every other crime will continue to put our country in peril.”
He added, "Only one man can fix that. That is Donald J. Trump. He has always stood with the men and women who protect this border, who put their lives on the line for the country." He said that if Kamala Harris is elected president, criminal cartels will continue to control the border, allowing drugs to continue to flood the US.
Perez continued, "On behalf of the 16,000 men and women represented by the National Border Patrol Council, we strongly support and endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States.”
Following the remarks, Trump pledged to hire 10,000 new border patrol agents and told the crowd, "I will be asking Congress to immediately approve a 10% raise for all agents, and a $10,000 dollar retention and signing bonus."
Last week, polling showed a tight race between the two candidates. According to a Wall Street Journal poll, Harris leads Trump in Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Michigan, while Trump leads Harris in Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania, however all are within the margin of error. Voters said they trusted Trump more on the economy by 10 points, and immigration and border security by 16 points.
