The Brew: Harris-Walz Campaign Continues to Make Life Easier for Opposition

Happy Monday!

When you are 22 days from an election, the news comes hot and heavy.

Are Democrats Getting Worried?

With just over three weeks to go until Election Day, are voters slipping away from Kamala Harris?

Polls are now showing former President Donald Trump is ahead or within the margin of error in all the swing states. More crucially, veteran political analyst Mark Halperin says his sources in both campaigns are saying the same thing: “Democrats are worried about where things stand.”

There’s no doubt in my mind that the polling, as I’ve characterized it this week, is accurate, that right now, Trump would win, and that the numbers are moving in his direction, and that [Harris’s] problems in each individual state with different demographic groups are pronounced and she’ll need to fix with some combination of tactical outreach to black males or union workers, whatever it is …

DOJ Sues Virginia for Removing Non-Citizens from Voter Rolls

Another sign that panic is starting to set in: The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Virginia for removing non-citizens from its voting rolls. Why does Harris want non-citizens on the voting rolls in a state that now seems to be in play? The DOJ claims federal law prohibits adjustments to voter rolls 90 days from an election.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin blasted the “unprecedented lawsuit,” claiming he’s merely enforcing an 18-year-old law to remove non-citizens.

“Virginians — and Americans — will see this for exactly what it is: a desperate attempt to attack the legitimacy of the elections in the Commonwealth, the very crucible of American democracy,” he said.

Funny that the DOJ used the “it’s close to the election” excuse to sue Virginia. DOJ policy also prohibits politically charged prosecutions in those 90 days, and yet their boy Jack Smith is still filing a motion in court unloading all his unsubstantiated allegations against Trump in the J6 case.

“The weaponization of the legal system is central to this election, including the role of the Justice Department in pushing the debunked Russia-collusion allegations from the 2016 race,” Jonathan Turley wrote last week in The Hill. “For many, the contents of Smith’s filing is not nearly as important as the time stamp over the case caption. Titled a ‘Motion for Immunity Determination,’ it seems more like a ‘Motion for an Election Determination.'”

People Who Have the Easiest Jobs in the World

Who has the easiest jobs in America right now? I’d say it’s the people doing ads for Donald Trump’s campaign. You come into the office, ask, “What did Kamala Harris and Tim Walz just say or do?” You grab it, tag it with “I’m Donald Trump and I approve this message,” post it, and your day is done.

For instance, take Harris talking about what’s at stake in the election.

Here’s the funny thing. Apparently the opposite is true for Democrats. Future Forward, a super-PAC supporting Harris, is warning candidates not to feature too much of Trump in their attack ads, warning, “Trump speaking often helps him, not us.” Uses of Trump’s words, they say, must provide “context.”

Walz Faces Mocking — and New Allegations

On Saturday, Tim Walz went pheasant hunting as part of the campaign’s urgent desire to draw back the male voters who are rejecting him and Harris. The only problem was that Walz appeared as awkward as a 13-year-old at his first school dance.

On Friday, Walz went back to the high school where he taught for years. He loves talking about when he was a teacher, but an odd thing happened at the football game. Where you’d expect a friendly welcome, Walz was given the cold shoulder. The “silent treatment,” as Fox News put it.

The reaction was strange. If a vice presidential candidate had been a teacher at my school and came to a game, I think folks would have been excited, or at least offered a warm welcome to someone in the Oxon Hill Clipper family running for national office.

Was it partisanship? Annoyance at being made to go through Secret Service screenings? Annoyance at a football game being used for political optics? Or something else? Some damning — though unverifiedallegations emerged over the weekend that Walz had engaged in inappropriate behavior while employed by the school, the kind of behavior that would account for the cool reception. The allegations were specific enough that they could be proven or disproven, should the media bother.

We don’t think they will.

After all, Joe Scarborough interviewed Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff the other day, and didn’t directly ask him to address the allegations that he struck an ex-girlfriend in 2012; rather, he asked how he handles the attacks from people on the right talking about it. Emhoff called them “distractions.” There was no effort on Scarborough’s part to ask if the allegations were true, and no effort by Emhoff to publicly deny them.

Barack to the Rescue … Not

Kamala Harris brought in Barack Obama to try to gin up support in Philadelphia. But all Obama did in that appearance was insult black men, implying they are misogynistic if they don’t support Harris.

The son of Midwestern white woman and Kenyan Communist official, who was raised in Indonesia and Hawaii before attaching himself to the radical elites, claims that he and the Canadian-raised daughter of a Jamaican and an Indian know what the “brothas” in Philly are experiencing and why. Amazing.

Meghan McCain Warns Harris to Stop Invoking Her Father

As for Harris herself, after she and her teleprompter did that Telemundo townhall recently, she went to Arizona and invoked the sacred name of John McCain in a bid to pass herself off as an aisle-crossing moderate — even saying the late senator had praised her.

McCain’s daughter, Meghan, hit back at Harris and the Democrats for “rewriting history,” adding, “But please don’t make me share what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris.”

In a separate post she added, “And consider this my final warning shot, I will start spilling tea.”

That’s some skill Harris has. She’s managed to get a Never Trumper like Meghan McCain miffed enough to threaten to publicly humiliate her days before the election.

“Pay a Price”? Biden Threatens Those Who Question His Response to the Hurricanes

Joe Biden is very grumpy about people criticizing the federal response to Hurricane Helene.

“I think those who have been spreading these lies to try to undermine the opposition, they are going to pay a price for it,” he grumbled on Friday. What price is that? Getting shot through the ear?

Apparently, the right to pretention is enshrined in the Constitution. Funny how the guy who calls Trump a threat to democracy so often betrays the Constitution that upholds this democracy.

But here’s the even funnier thing. Even as Biden is condemning criticisms of his response, the man who oversees the agency responsible for that response was proving the critics’ point.

Let Them Eat Sushi: Mayorkas Makes Quick Visit to Disaster Zone, Hightails It Back to DC for Fancy Dinner

To paraphrase George H.W. Bush: “Message: We Don’t Care.” Last weekend, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was spotted at a ritzy Washington clothier while countless North Carolinians were barely getting by with the shirts on their backs.

This week, Mayorkas did make a brief stop in the disaster zone, but quickly returned to Washington to get sushi from the high-end Nobu restaurant.

He’s getting raw fish while those he’s supposed to be serving are getting a raw deal.

But it’s not like he’s up in New York drinking beer with late-night TV show hosts, right? What leader would do that while an entire region of the country suffers?
