New York State Requiring WARNING Labels for Gun Shops

The gun grabbers have always been committed to doing everything they can to demonize guns, gun ownership, and gun owners. What better way to do this than to put a government-mandated warning label on guns?

New York State lawmakers recently passed a bill that will now require gun shops to put a warning sign on their buildings. The warning sign is created to warn people of the risks of owning firearms. This is all under the guise of preventing so-called “gun violence” and gun-related suicide.

We all know there’s no such thing as gun violence, only human violence, and we also know that suicide rates do not go down in the absence of guns, but if there is an opportunity for the gun grabbers to demonize guns and avoid addressing the real causes of violence and suicide, they will do so. The originally appointed New York Governor, Kathy Hochul, is infamously known for letting 191 detainees out of Rikers Island as soon as she was handed the role of governor. Somehow, posting signs outside gun shops is the solution New York State feels is necessary to their rampant crime problems.

The warning sign would state: “Access to a weapon or firearm in the home significantly increases the risk of suicide, death during domestic disputes, and/or unintentional deaths to children, household members and others. If you or a loved one is experiencing distress and/or depression, call the national suicide prevention lifeline at 988.”

The irony of such a law is that this type of tactic always backfires. The anti-gun crowd is about as angry as ever right now and will do anything to make themselves feel better in the process of degrading or punishing those with different beliefs. This appears to be an attempt at doing exactly that. Do they really want to stop violence and suicide in the state of New York? The answer is probably not because crime, violence, and suicide give left-wing legislators fuel to push for more gun regulations. What would they do if violent crime and suicide went away? Would they back off gun control laws? Violent crime and suicide will never end, regardless of gun ownership. When violence or suicide does decrease, the gun grabbers use it as an excuse to push for more gun control, claiming that the reduction is due to their gun laws. When violence or suicide increases, the gun grabbers claim they need more gun laws because of it.

Rochester City Councilmember Willie Lightfoot, who also serves as chairman of the ROC Against Gun Violence Coalition, says the bill is a step in the right direction — though it’s still not enough. Lightfoot is also advocating for more inspections of gun dealers.

Brandon Lewis, owner of The Firing Pin Indoor Shooting Range and Gun Shop in Bergen, said, “We definitely see this as a steppingstone, almost making firearms like cigarettes, and how they’re now just seen as an overall negative in society.”

Negative labels on products often backfire. We saw this with the infamous warning signs put on music in the 80s. You may remember the Parent Music Resource Center (PMRC), which was formed in 1985 under the guise of warning parents about rock music and claiming that it was dangerous to children. The group was founded by four women who called themselves “The Washington Wives,” which included Tipper Gore, wife of former Vice President Al Gore. Their goal was to get “parental advisory” labels put on music they believed was dangerous. Dee Snider, lead singer for the rock band Twisted Sister was famously known to have led the fight against the angry wives and spoke at a Senate hearing.

Ultimately, the “parental advisory” labels resulted in an increase in sales of rock records, and many bands wanted the label on their music. It was a label of defiance, which ultimately attracted more people to the music.

Will this new tactic of negatively labeling firearms and gun shops do anything to save lives, or is it just another tactic for disgruntled left-wingers to attack their political opposition and show their hatred toward the 2nd Amendment? Maybe gun shops can post signs of their own announcing how many lives are saved per year due to the bearing of arms in America.
