An Arkansas father has been arrested after fatally shooting a man he found in a car with his missing 14-year-old daughter.

On Tuesday, 36-year-old Aaron Spencer reported his daughter missing, prompting deputies from the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office to respond. However, before deputies arrived, Spencer located his daughter in a vehicle with 67-year-old Michael Fosler. A confrontation ensued, during which Spencer allegedly shot and killed Fosler, according to Fox News.

Spencer was arrested on a preliminary charge of first-degree murder. After being booked at the Lonoke County Detention Center, he was released the following day on bail. Formal charges have not yet been filed, and the district attorney's office is still determining what charges will be brought, according to Sheriff John Staley.

"This is a tragic situation, and my thoughts and prayers are with all involved," Staley said.

Heather Spencer, Aaron's wife, took to Facebook, revealing that Fosler had a "no contact order" with their daughter after he stalked and raped her last summer. She also mentioned that neither she nor her husband knew he had re-established contact with their daughter.

"We absolutely called 911 during the entire event," she wrote. "We had no idea this man was in contact with our child again. He was waiting 6-9 felonies for what he did, not 2. He was looking at the rest of his pathetic life in jail, and our daughter was the only witness."

Heather Spencer also expressed frustration over how the case was handled by authorities. "Some things we will never know, but we know that the police department afforded this predator privacy they did not give our family," she added. "Including posting our home address. I’m deeply offended by the way this was handled by the county [sheriff's] office."

"At the end of the day, our daughter is a victim and we have a long road of recovery for everyone. We are so thankful for all the calls, messages and prayers,” she said.

The sheriff's office is currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting. "When we get on scene and there's a homicide, it means one person took the life of another," Staley said. "It's either justified or not justified. That's what the fact finding, that's what the investigation is going to find out."

Heather Spencer also started a GoFundMe to raise money for her husband's legal fees, but it was taken down, and the funds were returned due to GoFundMe’s policy against raising money for the legal defense of individuals charged with alleged violent crimes, Fox News reported.
