Meghan McCain said Friday she would reveal what her late father, John McCain, “actually” said about Kamala Harris, in response to a story Ms. Harris shared about McCain when they both served in the Senate.
At a Republicans for Harris rally Friday in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Democratic presidential nominee said McCain once spoke positively of her.
Ms. Harris said that she and the Arizona Republican had been “going after” each other during a Senate committee hearing but afterward McCain praised her.
“I step onto the floor of the well of the Senate later that day — we had votes — and I passed by John McCain, and he looks at me, and he says, ‘Kid, come over here. You’re going to make a great senator,’” said Ms. Harris. “True story. True story.”
“That was John McCain. That was John McCain. I was talking about him last night at a rally, right? John McCain, who — you know, we didn’t agree on everything, but, man, I mean, what about an incredible American hero?” the vice president added.
Ms. McCain suggested on X later that day that her father wouldn’t have sung Ms. Harris’ praises.
“Now, I know democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be depending on the political moment you need to bastardize his memory for …” Ms. McCain posted Friday on X. “But please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris…”
“And consider this my final warning shot, I will start spilling tea,” she added in a later post.
Ms. McCain reiterated her message Saturday, calling out “really triggered Democrats … who claim they know more about my dad than well … his daughter.”
“Get a grip on reality, you lunatics,” she posted.
Arizona is a swing state Republicans and Democrats are vying for.
McCain was a former naval officer and prisoner of war during the Vietnam War, and died in 2018. A maverick Republican, he was an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee.
The Washington Times has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.
