Donald Trump vowed that he would stop any ban on gasoline-powered vehicles in California on Saturday evening during a campaign rally in Coachella. The comments from Trump come after the state has moved to ban new gas-powered cars by 2035.

As Trump spoke to the audience in Coachella, he said, "I will not allow California politicians to get away with their plan to impose a 100 percent ban on the sale of gas-powered cars and trucks... that'll be ended in the first day."

Along with Trump’s other policy points on manufacturing, the campaign promise would be good news for the automobile industry in the United States, which has seen stiff regulation over emissions.

In 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom made the announcement to ban gas-powered vehicles by 2035, "For too many decades, we have allowed cars to pollute the air that our children and families breathe. Californians shouldn't have to worry if our cars are giving our kids asthma. Our cars shouldn't make wildfires worse—and create more days filled with smoky air,” Newsom said at the time.

In the lead-up to the rally, thousands gathered in order to see the former president. Although it is unlikely he will win the deep blue state of California, the Associated Press pointed out that there will be key congressional races in the Golden State.

During the rally, Trump laid into Vice President Kamala Harris, saying that she allowed for mass amounts of illegal immigration when she was a politician in California and has done the same after being elected as Vice President for the last three and a half years. He recounted the stories of several victims of crimes committed by violent illegal immigrants and slammed the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.

Earlier this week, as well as in his rally in Coachella, California, Trump said that if he is elected president, the government will dissemble every illegal immigrant crime network, coining the policy "Operation Aurora."

"We will call it Operation Aurora," Trump commented. "That's what we're going to do in honor of the people that have suffered in Aurora at the hands of this horrible gang operation." The former president vowed to use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 in order to carry out the policy.
