Minnesota Governor and Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz was loudly booed over the weekend of September 28, an incident that occurred when he attended the Minnesota-Michigan football game in Ann Arbor, Michigan. When he appeared, Michigan fans booed and shouted “Get out of here,” while students heckled and jeered him as he walked through the stands.

As might be expected, social media users loved the incident, with the shouts from the fans drawing much attention. For example, one commenter said, “THIS IS BRUTAL! Michigan college football fans BOOED Tim Walz as he entered the stadium for the big game against Minnesota Some were screaming, “GET OUT OF HERE!” This is what happens when they can’t bus in supporters to cheer like robots.”

But while the fans jeering at Walz drew a great deal of attention, the fact that students in Michigan were hurling insults his way might have been even funnier and more telling, as usually college kids are regarded as being more on the leftie side of things than the right, though the “FJB” chants of 2021 and 2022 were a fly in the ointment of that generalization.

Drawing attention to the college kids mocking Walz was Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, who said, “Tim Walz gets heckled by students at the Michigan game and then appears to flip off the students. Really showing his ex-teacher, vice presidential maturity getting rattled by some college kids. Weak!” For reference, Snopes notes that Walz, as shown in a higher-quality video, was pointing at someone with his index finger, not shooting the bird.

In any case, commenters on Kirk’s post said things like “Contrast with the entire stadium of Alabama fans on their feet cheering for Trump yesterday” and “If some frat boys get under his skin, what’s gonna happen when he gets a phone call from Putin.” Another added, “Walz is a nothing-burger. He does nothing to stimulate interest in Kamala. Everything is fake “rah rah” we are the party of joy while Kamala has over seen the invasion of our country. Kamala’s hype is peaked and now on the decline.”

Another account that posted about Walz getting heckled was the Old Row account, which is focused on college fraternity life and related topics like college football. It, posting the same video that Kirk used, wrote, “Tim Walz gets heckled by students at the Michigan – Minnesota game ‘TRUMP 2024 BABY!!!’”

Commenters on that post noted that the incident seems to hold bad news for Gov. Walz, writing comments like, “Seriously, the reaction they get when they go places…who is voting for this trash team?” and “You know it’s bad for Kamala-Walz when this happens in one of the deepest blue parts of the state, Ann Arbor, MI. Others used the general incident to note that whereas Trump gets huge outpourings of support when he attends events like football games or UFC fights, Walz couldn’t even get a positive reception from an Ann Arbor crowd, indicating how people might really feel. One commenter who made that point said, “I don’t understand how Kamala is leading by so much in the polls. Yet when her and her counter parts go somewhere they get booed relentlessly. When Trump goes ANYWHERE he gets the loudest standing ovation there is,” they wrote.
