A self-confessed murderer was released from jail on bail by an activist judge hours after being arrested. 19-year-old K'Shawn Jimerson is accused of stabbing 65-year-old handyman Michael Gray to death on Friday in Renton, Washington. According to Fox 13, Gray, a military vet, lived with his roommates in a single-story home across the street from the duplex where he was killed.
Susan Hassinger, with Renton Police, said 911 dispatchers reported that Jimerson called 911 himself to say "he stabbed someone," and that he would be waiting outside the duplex with the knife.
When law enforcement responded, they discovered "K’Shawn Konscience Jimerson in front" and saw "blood on Jimerson, but no knife." According to court documents, Jimerson had blood on his jeans, his shoes and feet. "Once inside, officers discovered a male subject in the living room of the apartment who was suffering from knife wounds."
According to police, Gray, who had been hired by Jimerson's grandmother to do handyman work in the duplex, had been stabbed in the back and on his side, and investigators located the large butcher knife used in the stabbing in a sink of detergent.
Surveillance video obtained by police showed Jimerson chasing Gray and hitting him in the back of the head with a large wooden club. Jimerson then struck Gray twice in the head after the 65-year-old fell to the ground.
On a court form, police marked that they objected to Jimerson’s release noting, "Jimerson, who is 19, stabbed a 65-year-old man with a large knife during an argument." At a court hearing, prosecutors asked Judge Michelle Gehlsen for $2 million bail but despite finding probable cause for second-degree murder, she set bail at only $50,000. Jimerson posted bail and was released a mere 27 hours after the murder and his arrest.
Gray's roommates told Fox 13 that he was a kind man who was always willing to lend a hand, as well as a tremendous person who used his skills to help and maintain his large network of friends.
