(Northfield, Minn.) President Biden told a third-generation farmer that he spent decades in agriculture before finally taking up a career in politics and gave an iconic tractor line its distinctive look.
“I don’t know if you know this or not, but I was the one who came up with the green color for John Deere tractors,” Biden told third-generation farmer Brad Kluver. “I’m not kiddin’, either. It was one of the reasons why I won ‘Rookie Farmer of the Year’ back home in Delaware. Yeah, I farmed for decades before finally hanging up my spurs and giving politics a try. And I’ve been doing that ever since, but I’ve never really lost my zest for farming. Ask Jill. I’m always talking bull.”
Kluver thanked Biden for his visit and for making sure that John Deere took his idea to paint their equipment green. Biden then joked: “Can you even imagine ‘John Deere Deep Red’ or ‘John Deere Ford Blue?’”
