The Biden-Harris administration announced on Wednesday that $750 would be distributed to residents in states ravaged by Hurricane Helene. The federal assistance will be provided through FEMA, and those who need immediate relief can apply for financial aid at their earliest convenience. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, made the announcement during a visit to Augusta, Georgia, a city that sustained catastrophic damage from the hurricane.

Harris commended Georgia Governor Brian Kemp for his efforts to assist residents who were most severely affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which wreaked havoc on the southeast - cracking holes in roads, blowing rooftops off of homes, and downing power lines leaving residents unable to communicate.

"I want to thank the governor for his leadership and his close coordination with the federal government, with our administration. And I want to thank the local leaders for together, creating a task-force-like response, knowing we are at our best when we work together and coordinate resources, coordinate our communications to the maximum effect for the community that has been impacted," said Harris.

The vice president said that President Biden has approved Gov. Kemp's request for 100 percent federal reimbursement for costs to impacted communities. Harris then announced that residents needing immediate assistance could apply to receive $750 from FEMA.

Shortly after the $750 in aid had been announced, the Democratic candidate was relentlessly mocked on social media over the "low" amount being offered to American taxpayers, with recent reports from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas revealing that FEMA doesn't have enough funds to make it through hurricane season. Some have questioned the Biden administration's decision to provide billions of dollars to foreign countries like Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as aid to illegal immigrants, while American residents were offered so little.

President Biden announced further relief efforts on Wednesday, which included deploying Elon Musk-owned Starlink satellites for victims of the hurricanes. However, Biden's FCC revoked a grant for Starlink in 2022 that would have given access to the service in 17 of the counties in North Carolina that received catastrophic hurricane damage. That decision came as the Biden admin waged a war on Musk-owned companies over his no censorship freedom of speech stance.

Musk has also announced that Starlink would be providing satellite services to the hurricane victims free of charge, which has already taken effect.
