To increase President Joe Biden’s popularity among younger voters, his aides have established a new SuperPAC.
Politico stated that the new organization, Won’t PAC Down, employed writers, producers, and directors from Generation Z and millennials to create content that appealed to voters that are under 30. John Della Volpe, a member of Biden’s 2020 polling team, is among the former team members who are part of the PAC.
Despite only becoming public recently, the PAC has been meeting for the last six months. The organization hopes to raise and invest $20–25 million.
The writers that signed on for the project have written for shows including Parks and Recreation, Big Mouth, and Saturday Night Live. The head writer of the writer’s room, Travis Helwig, a former head writer for Crooked Media, promised a fresh strategy while acknowledging the challenge of their work and the awkwardness surrounding the Biden campaign’s outreach to younger people.
He told the publication, “There’s a huge difference between what we’re doing and putting a celebrity in front of the camera and having them state, ‘If you enjoyed Madame Web, then you are going to love voting.” We’re using poll-tested messaging and the best up-and-coming writers and directors to create content that appeals to and excites young people in the age and demographic ranges we’re targeting.”
Even though he continues to lead among young voters, Biden’s support has significantly decreased since 2020. A Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics poll from April shows that the president’s lead over former President Trump among those under thirty is only eight points, while the difference among registered voters is thirteen points.
When compared to his 2020 standing, which was 60% in the same poll, Biden’s present position is significantly lower.
The Biden team expressed optimism that their influence would be significant, despite their legal prohibition from working directly with Won’t PAC Down.
Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden’s campaign manager, informed Politico that “organizations like Won’t PAC Down, which know the power of the youth vote, will play an important role in activating young people across the nation.”
The group should release its first ads in July.
