The House Oversight Committee has uncovered from a whistleblower confirmed links between Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
This comes as Walz has faced greater scrutiny over his connection to China and sympathies for the country's socialist policies. Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) wrote in a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that as a part of the committee's wider effort to conduct a government-wide investigation related to the CCP, "The Committee has recently received whistleblower disclosures informing the Committee of serious concern among Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel regarding a longstanding connection between the CCP and Minnesota Governor Timothy James Walz."
"Specifically, through whistleblower disclosures, the Committee has learned of a non-classified, Microsoft Teams group chat among DHS employees— titled 'NST NFT Bi-Weekly Sync' - that contains information about Governor Walz that is relevant to the Committee's investigation," the letter added.
The letter from the committee subpoenaed documents from the chat related to the connections between Walz and the CCP. "The attached subpoena requires DHS to produce these documents and communications regarding Governor Walz's connections with the CCP," the letter stated.
"The information required of DHS by the Committee's subpoena will inform the Committee's understanding of how successful the CCP has been in waging political warfare in and against the United States, how effectively federal agencies are addressing the communist regime's campaign, and what reforms are necessary to counter this threat," Comer wrote, tying Walz to the greater threat of a CCP infiltration and influence in different facets of government.
