A four-year-old girl and her mother were shot while in their car on a Florida highway on Friday night. When police arrived after an emergency call came through about the shooting, they found the mother and daughter with gunshot wounds in Broward County, Florida.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Police were on the search for their killer as of Saturday morning, according to Local 10.
Highway Patrol troopers in the state got word of the shooting that happened near mile marker 49, not far from Hollywood Boulevard, right before midnight during the late night on Friday. The Flordia Turnpike was closed for a short time early on Saturday morning and a tow truck picked up the car. The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes on the front and back of the passenger's side of the car.
The mother was identified as Beatrice Saintvil, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office in the local area. “Sadly, the girl was pronounced deceased on scene,” FHP Lt. Indiana Miranda wrote in a statement to reporters at the time. “At the request of our department, Broward Sheriff’s Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating this fatal shooting."
Immediately after the shooting, it was not clear if it was a targeted attack or random. Those with more information have been asked to contact Detective Ryan Schnakenberg at (954) 321-4247 or send a tip with the SaferWatch app online.
