Cameron Brink was brought to tears this week upon learning that she had been selected to represent the United States this summer at the Paris Olympics as a member of the women’s 3×3 basketball team.
In a video shared Thursday by USA Basketball 3×3’s Instagram account, the Los Angeles Sparks rookie is seen crying after Jay Dennings, the organization’s national team director, shared the exciting news and presented her with an official Team USA jersey.
“It feels absolutely surreal. I was not expecting this whatsoever, but I’ve worked very hard for this. I love the coaches, the committee, and everything, so I’m just beyond thankful,” Brink said.
Brink, 22, will join Cierra Burdick, currently of Spain’s Valencia Basket Club, the Atlanta Dream’s Rhyne Howard and TCU’s Hailey Van Lith in a quest to bring home another gold medal in the competition.
At the Tokyo Games in 2021, the U.S. won gold in the first year 3×3 basketball was highlighted as an Olympic Sport. WNBA stars Kelsey Plum, Stefanie Dolson, Allisha Gray and Jackie Young were on the gold medal-winning roster.
This week’s Olympics news adds to what’s been an epic year for Brink.
After winning Pac-12 Player of the Year, the former Stanford basketball star was the No.2 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Sparks.
Brink is averaging 8 points per game, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in her rookie season.
In addition to her professional basketball career, Brink is also balancing endorsement commitments as she recently appeared in an ad campaign for Kim Kardashian’s shapewear and underwear line, SKIMS.
Before her Olympics nod, Brink participated in the 2023 FIBA 3×3 World Cup and was named MVP of the tournament.
The Olympics’ 3×3 basketball competition will run from July 30 through Aug. 5.
