President Biden said Thursday he would not pardon his son, Hunter, if he is convicted in his ongoing trial on gun charges.
Mr. Biden was asked during an ABC News interview in Normandy, France, whether he would accept the outcome of the trial and if he would rule out a pardon.
Mr. Biden answered “yes” to both.
Hunter Biden is on trial in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware.
He is accused of making two false statements when filling out the form to purchase the weapon by claiming not to be addicted to or using illegal drugs, and then unlawfully possessing the Colt revolver for 11 days. Under federal law, it is illegal for someone addicted to drugs to own a firearm.
Hunter Biden is charged with two counts related to false statements in purchasing a firearm and a third count of illegally obtaining a firearm while addicted to guns.
Also Thursday, the president said former President and presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump got a fair shake in his New York hush money trial. He accused his election rival of flouting the rule of law.
“He’s trying to undermine it,” Mr. Biden told anchor David Muir. “He got a fair trial. The jury spoke.”
Mr. Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Prosecutors said Mr. Trump, using his lawyer Michael Cohen, paid $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels to avoid bad press near the 2016 election and then criminally concealed the nature of the payment.
