Vice President Kamala Harris will sit down for a one-on-one interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, an ardent Harris defender who has supported the vice president’s avoidance of the press.

The interview will air on MSNBC at 7 p.m. and will take place in Pittsburgh, where Ms. Harris is campaigning Wednesday.

MSNBC did not provide additional details about the interview, which will be only the third sit-down interview by Ms. Harris since becoming the Democratic party nominee last month. She recently sat down for an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, which included her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and also conducted a solo interview with a reporter from the ABC News affiliate in Philadelphia.

Ms. Harris has largely eschewed the national network press since becoming the nominee, instead participating in interviews with local media outlets in several swing states.

The selection of Ms. Ruhle has drawn criticism from Republicans, noting her support for the vice president.

“This is legitimately pathetic for a person who wants to be president. Ruhle has explicitly endorsed Harris. She won’t ask hard Qs. Kamala runs from tough questions because she can’t defend her record,” Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio wrote on Twitter.

Ms. Ruhle angered Republicans over the weekend when she joined Bill Maher’s HBO show and defended Ms. Harris after Mr. Maher and New York Times columnist Bret Stephens suggested that the vice president needs to do more interviews.

Kamala Harris is not running for perfect. She’s running against Trump. We have two choices. And so there are some things you might not know her answer to. And in 2024, unlike 2016 for a lot of the American people, we know exactly what Trump will do, who he is and the kind of threat he is to democracy,” Ms. Ruhle said of former President Donald Trump.

When Mr. Stephens pushed back, saying it’s not a lot to ask Ms. Harris to sit down for an interview, Ms. Ruhle responded that “we don’t live” in Nirvana.

Mr. Trump responded by calling Ms. Ruhle a “bimbo” and “dumb as a rock” in a scathing Truth Social post.
