The Harris part of the Biden-Harris campaign inherited the Biden problem. In order to establish his credibility as a candidate, he began spending a ton of money early on ads. Much of that ad campaign seemed to be aimed at convincing his own party that he was viable candidate. Eventually a donor coup cut off the money and replaced him with Kamala who is once again burning through a ton of cash and spending it on ads.
Now maybe it’s because I’m deep blue territory, but I see Kamala ads all over. The ads aren’t trying to persuade me to do anything except send her money. That’s a familiar spiral in political fundraising where money is raised to spend on raising more money to take out ads to raise more money.
Kamala is blowing through a whole lot of cash. $137 million was spent on ads just in August. And if there’s anyone who doesn’t need to do ad spending on that scale it’s a politician who is currently getting billions in free media publicity. And yet the spending goes on.
Ads are not especially effective. Especially TV ads. Campaigns spend a lot of money on ads either due to incompetence or corruption.
As I wrote in Kamala’s Money Machine, she has a history of overspending on campaigns. And the burn rate here is impressive. As is the amount of money pouring in.
And every time I click on Youtube, I’m treated to Kamala slowly intoning that she needs money from me.
