Earlier this month, in a brazen attempt to pander to centrist and suburban voters skeptical of the Democratic Party, Vice President Kamala Harris voiced her support for building a barrier along the United States’s southern border with Mexico. 

However, American voters believe that former President Donald Trump is better equipped to deal with issues concerning border security. 

According to a Rasmussen poll published earlier this month, 58% of likely US Voters believe that Trump has been more consistent in his policy positions with respect to immigration. 32% believe Harris has been more consistent on immigration, while an additional 10% are unsure. 

An Axios report from earlier this month indicated that Harris vowed to “spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the wall along the southern border — a project she once opposed and called ‘un-American’ during the Trump administration.” 28% of voters believe it’s likely that, if she assumes the presidency, Harris would actually construct the border wall, which includes 11% who stated it’s very likely. That said, 64% don’t believe it likely Harris would actually build the border wall, which includes 41% who believe it’s unlikely.

Among voters who indicated that Trump has been more consistent on immigration policy, 63% believe it is unlikely that, if elected president, Harris would actually build the border wall.

Whereas 44% of Democrat voters believe it’s at least somewhat likely Harris would construct the border wall, that belief is held by just 17% of Republican voters and 22% of independent voters. 62% of Republican voters and 46% of independent voters believe it is unlikely that Harris would build the border wall, in addition to 16% of Democrat voters.

83% of Republican voters, 29% of Democrat voters, and 63% of independent voters indicated that on issues of immigration Trump has been more consistent in his policy stances. 60% of Democrat voters, 10% of Republican voters, and 24% of independent voters believe Harris has been more consistent on immigration issues.

23% of white voters, 50% of black voters, 33% of Hispanic voters, and 27% of non-black minorities believe it’s at least somewhat likely that, if Harris becomes president, she would actually construct  the border wall.

80% of self-identified conservative voters view Trump as more reliable on immigration related questions, whereas 69% of liberal voters stated Harris has been more consistent. Among moderate voters, 53% believe Trump is more consistent on immigration policy and 35% believe Harris has been more consistent.

As far as income categories are concerned, individuals making between $30,000 and $100,000 annually are most likely to view Trump as being more consistent in terms of immigration matters. 

Harris is clearly pandering here. She will not do anything meaningful on immigration should she be installed in power. In fact, due to the Democratic Party’s fanatically pro-immigration policies, Harris will likely double down on expanding immigration as much as possible. 

Anyone who desires immigration restriction would be wise to avoid voting for Harris at all costs.
