New York City police said a man was stabbed Friday by a stranger as the victim exited the subway in Manhattan.
Authorities said the 29-year-old man was walking out of a train in the East Village around 8:45 p.m. Friday, when an assailant stuck a knife in him.
The victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Police said the attacker ran off after the stabbing. The assailant is described as an “Asian man with a bag.”
A security guard at the First Avenue Station told the New York Daily News that the victim was in pain and yelled “Somebody punched me” after the incident.
But the guard said fellow riders soon noticed blood coming from his body.
“Someone came up behind him and stabbed him in the back,” the security guard named Samba told the Daily News. “He never saw it coming.”
