Multiple Democratic lawmakers, when they were directly asked if they would stop calling Donald Trump a "threat to democracy" after the GOP nominee has been subject to two assassination attempts in the last few months, refused and said that they would keep using the label. This comes as 28 percent of Democrats in the US said in a poll that the country would be better off if Trump had been killed. 

Fox correspondent Hillary Vaughn approached several Democratic lawmakers in congressional office buildings following the second assassination attempt by Ryan Routh this past week and asked them if they would stop using the label. Each one declined and reiterated the talking point.  

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) responded to the question, "No, uh, the fact of the matter is that he is a threat to democracy."  

Vaughn approached progressive Democrat House member Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and she responded, "No, I think that we should be clear that he is a threat to democracy." The correspondent pressed Jayapal, asking, "Do you think that the rhetoric, though, needs to be toned down?"  

The Washington congresswoman then responded, "I think [Trump's] rhetoric should be toned down."

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) had little else to say aside from the talking point parroted by both of her colleagues, "These are the facts," Crockett began when asked the question, "He is a threat. Period. Point-blank." 

After the second assassination attempt, Trump and his campaign released a list of quotes from top-level Democrats who have referred to him as a "threat to Democracy" as well as other incendiary labels.  

The list includes quotes from Biden saying that Trump is an "existential threat” as well as a “threat to our democracy and fundamental freedoms." Harris has made similar statements while making her run for the 2024 race and previously joked about killing Trump in a 2018 interview.
