U.S. Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) — who served as a Navy SEAL sniper prior to his time in Congress — told conservative political commentator Benny Johnson that the possibility of the Secret Service being infiltrated by a “mole” cannot be discounted.

Several questions remain unanswered following the second attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life in just over 60 days. Ryan Routh, 58, was apprehended after a Secret Service advance team spotted his sniper’s nest outside the former president’s West Palm Beach golf course.

The former president’s round of golf was not listed on his public schedule at the time of the incident. Questions also remain surrounding Routh’s plan, as investigators do not currently believe the Hawaii resident had any familiarity with the course layout or the Palm Beach area.

On Monday, Johnson listed a number of mysteries surrounding the case before asking for Rep. Crane’s thoughts on the latest attempt on Trump’s life. “How did Ryan Ralph vote in North Carolina in 2024, just six months ago, he voted in the Democrat primary in person for Joe Biden? How did this Joe Biden voter, vote in North Carolina even though he lived in Hawaii? How did he have, how was he able to purchase firearms when he had weapons of mass destruction felonies on his record?” Johnson asked.

Routh was convicted in 2002 for being in possession of a fully automatic weapon.

“Yeah, well, as far as your voting question, I guess our elections aren’t as transparent and tight as a lot of folks in the establishment would have you believe. As far as the gun question, it’s just one more reason why these Democrats who want to take away our firearms can’t be allowed to do that, because criminals don’t care about laws, they don’t care about gun laws, right?” Crane responded.

Elsewhere in the segment, Crane raised a chilling question about the U.S. Secret Service.

“Point number two is this, the president, my advice to the president is to bolster your private security around you, not only to fill holes in the gaps that the Secret Service continues to leave open, but also to watch the watchers,” Crane said.

“There is a very real possibility at this point that there is a mole within the Secret Service team surrounding the president or at the highest levels of the Secret Service, and so he does need somebody, you know, a group of individuals around him that are loyal to him and are not politicized.”

Dan Bongino — a Secret Service veteran — has also raised the possibility of a “mole” within the Department of Homeland Security or Secret Service.

Bongino noted that there have been numerous, documented plots involving foreign nationals or governments working to infiltrate and subvert federal agencies. In one particular example, two men were convicted of impersonating federal agents in connection with an elaborate plot that duped the Secret Service.

“Folks, what happened yesterday in Secret Service jargon, the movement to the golf, the golf course, Donald Trump going to play golf at the golf course is what we call an OTR. Stands for an off-the-record movement, meaning it’s not on the official schedule, meaning very few people have access to it,” Bongino explained.

“What makes me even more curious about what happened yesterday isapparently the decision to golf was made at the last minute. Meaning, there were probably – when the decision was made, less than 10 people who knew about it. How’d this guy know to set up there?”
