CNN data reporter Harry Enten expressed surprise that Vice President Kamala Harris’ favorability rating had climbed to a net positive Wednesday morning.

Harris currently leads former President Donald Trump by 2% in the RealClearPolling average of polls from Sept. 3-15, with her lead dropping to 1.6% when Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein, Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver and independent candidate Cornel West are included in surveys. Enten said that Harris’ favorability had become markedly better than President Joe Biden’s in an aggregate of polls he selected since she replaced Biden in July.

“I just think that this is such dramatic movement, my goodness gracious. You know when Harris entered the race, when Joe Biden dropped out all the way back in mid-July, I know, it was months ago, it was only two months ago, she had a net favorability rating of minus 14 points,” Enten told “CNN News Central” host Sara Sidner. “Just by getting into the race, look where she jumped to a month later at minus three. And this week for the first time, she popped a positive net favorability rating, that is more people view her favorably than unfavorably.”

“If you had asked me two months ago but whether I thought Kamala Harris in the aggregate, would ever during this campaign, pop a positive net favorability rating, I would have said you were crazy, but the fact is you weren‘t crazy, I was just not thinking creatively,” Enten continued. “Kamala Harris has come into this campaign and the more voters have gotten a look at her the more they have liked her.”

Enten observed that Harris’ net favorability was higher than both Biden’s and Trump’s but noted Trump’s net favorability was at its highest in his three presidential campaigns.

“Look at Donald Trump’s net favorability rating,” Enten told Sidner. “This is actually higher than he was in the last two campaigns at this point, but still underwater at minus nine points.”

Biden announced the end of his reelection bid July 21, endorsing Harris shortly afterward. At the time Biden ended his reelection bid, he trailed Trump by 3.1% in a national head-to-head matchup, according to the RealClearPolling average of polls, with Trump’s lead expanding to 4.2% when then-independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the other third party candidates were included.
