Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday met with a group of Martin County, Florida police officers who apprehended a gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at his West Palm Beach golf course.
On Sunday, Secret Service engaged a man who was seen aiming a scoped rifle through a hole in the fence on the outskirts of the course. A Secret Service advance team positioned ahead of Trump on the course noticed the weapon, prompting agents to immediately return fire.
Investigators recovered two backpacks, a scoped rifle and a GoPro camera from the scene, though the suspect was able to escape. Miraculously, an eyewitness was able to obtain a description of the suspect, as well as his vehicle, as he fled the area.

The vehicle was ultimately stopped in Martin County, located just north of Palm Beach County, and took 58-year-old Ryan Routh into custody. Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
On Tuesday, former President Trump met with Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, Chief Deputy John Budensiek, and officers who participated in the operation at his Mar-A-Lago estate. “That’s good lookin’ stuff right there,” an enthusiastic Trump told the officers. “Those are good looking human beings, right?”
The former president then took the time to shake hands with each officer and thank them for their work in detaining Routh before anyone was hurt.
Routh is currently faces federal firearms charges, though federal prosecutors have cautioned that attempted murder charges may not be in order due to the fact that Routh never fired his weapon.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has vowed to conduct an independent investigation and suggested that additional charges could be coming the would-be assassin’s way at the state level.
“In my judgment,” DeSantis said, “it’s not in the best interest of our state or our nation to have the same federal agencies that are seeking to prosecute Donald Trump leading this investigation, especially when the most serious straight-forward offense constitutes a violation of state law, but not federal law.”
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder has raised serious concerns over the second attempt on Trump’s life in just over 60 days, pointing to the fact that Trump’s round of golf was not on his public schedule. “How does a guy from not here get all the way to Trump International, realize that the former president of the United States is golfing, and is able to get a rifle in that vicinity? I think that’s the question the FBI, the Secret Service, are laser-focused on today,” the sheriff said in a recent interview.
