At least 8 people have been killed and over 2,750 people seriously injured in Lebanon on Tuesday after their pager devices exploded, security sources told Reuters. Among those affected were hundreds of Hezbollah militants and Iran's ambassador to Lebanon. Hezbollah said an investigation was being conducted into the causes of the explosions.

A Hezbollah official who asked to remain anonymous stated that the incident was the "biggest security breach" the terrorist organization had been subjected to since Hamas invaded Israel October 7, suggesting the communication devices were remotely detonated. The Israeli Defense Force declined to comment to Reuters when asked about the explosions.

Hezbollah confirmed in a statement that 3 people were killed in the incident. Two of them were militants and one of them was a girl. One of the militants was reportedly the son of a Hezbollah member of the Lebanese parliament. It also confirmed chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was not harmed.

Iran's Fars news agency reported that Mojtaba Amani, Iran's ambassador to Lebanon "has a superficial injury and is currently under observation in a hospital."

The pagers had reportedly been recently brought into Lebanon by Hezbollah and distributed across Lebanon, including in the capital of Beirut. Many of the injuries being treated at local hospitals occurred to hands, limbs, faces and eyes.
