House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Friday that House Republicans would “drag” New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg to a hearing to testify on whether former President Donald Trump’s guilty verdict was politically motivated.

After the jury found Mr. Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican, sent a letter to Mr. Bragg and prosecutor Matthew Colangelo and demanded that the two appear for testimony in front of the Weaponization of Federal Government Subcommittee on June 13.

Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, noted that he had just been with Mr. Jordan in his home state and he planned to compel the two men to testify.

“We’re going to drag, at least attempt to drag Alvin Bragg in before the Weaponization Select Committee in the House to answer for this,” Mr. Johnson told radio host Mark Levin. “And these rogue prosecutors, we’re going to have them come in and try to explain to us how this is fair.”

He continued, “We’ll see if they defy that order to come and testify to us, but we’re going to do our job and hold the line in every possible way we can and get accountability for this, because we have to do it.”

A jury on Thursday found the former president guilty of all charges related to a hush money payment he made to porn star Stormy Daniels in an attempt to keep her from divulging their affair during the 2016 presidential election.

Mr. Johnson’s warning to Mr. Bragg comes after the speaker suggested that the Supreme Court should get involved in the appeals process of the case. Mr. Trump’s legal team has vowed to appeal the verdict, but they would first need to go through the New York appellate court before reaching the Supreme Court.

“There’s a lot of developments yet to come, but I do believe the Supreme Court should step in, obviously, this is totally unprecedented,” Mr. Johnson said on “Fox & Friends.” “I think that the Justices on the court — I know many of them personally — I think they are deeply concerned about that, as we are. So I think they’ll set this straight.”
