Republicans mock Biden for ‘evil’ grin after asked if Trump is a political prisoner

Trump was convicted on 34 felony charges on Thursday, pertaining to his alleged falsification of business records to hide a hush money payment to former porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump has since vowed to appeal the ruling, but said the verdict was proof the trial was “rigged,” which Biden and the court have dismissed.

Several high profile Republicans mocked a video of President Joe Biden on Friday, where the president appeared to smile at a question on whether former President Donald Trump was a “political prisoner.”

Republican lawmakers, pundits, and Trump campaign officials commented that the president appeared “evil” when he smiled at the question, which was asked following a press conference. When he was walking away from the podium, a reporter asked, “Donald Trump refers to himself as a political prisoner and blames you directly. What’s your response to that, sir?”

Biden then paused and grinned at the question and reporters, but did not offer a verbal response before walking away.

“He’s NOT even trying to hide it anymore… Biden’s grin is all American voters need to see,” Texas GOP Rep. Wesley Hunt said in a post to X.

High ranking GOP congresswoman Elise Stefanik commented on the video that Biden is a “clear and present threat to democracy,” according to Fox News.

Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt also claimed that Biden looked “evil” in the video, and Trump campaign official Jason Miller questioned where “the senile fool shuffling off to???”

A former ESPN anchor, Sage Steele, weighed in on the video, claiming she rarely “use[s] the word evil to describe another human being but…..” and attached a clip of the grin.

“[It is] reckless, it’s dangerous, it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don’t like the verdict,” Biden said on Friday.
