Trump Suspect Hit With Gun Charges

Ryan Wesley Routh, the 58-year-old North Carolina native arrested for targeting former President Donald Trump in an assassination attempt Sunday, was charged Monday with two firearm offenses by a federal court. If convicted, Routh could receive a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Republicans on Capitol Hill on Monday expressed their exasperation with the Secret Service after a second assassination attempt against Donald Trump ended up with the would-be shooter well within range of the former president.

Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) exclaimed, The Hill reports. “You hate to say it, but what this looks like is an intentional [act] of not funding what they should fund to help him. Report: Biden Granted Parole Visas to Cuban Communists

The Biden administration has granted “humanitarian parole” to high-ranking members of Cuba’s communist government, including a military officer who shot down relief planes to the island from US-based Cubans, The Washington Times reports.

Coming to America: “As senior members of the adversarial regime, the Cubans would have been denied entry if they had tried to come through the usual immigration system, said Emilio Gonzalez, a former Homeland Security Department agency leader,” the paper relates. Putin Orders Russian Army Expansion

As its war with Ukraine grinds on, Russia’s armed forces are about to expand. President Vladimir Putin on Monday ordered the size of the army upped by 180,000 troops to 1.5 million active members. The move would make it the world’s second-largest army after China, Reuters reports.

Reaction to NATO: “Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of Russia’s lower house of parliament’s defense committee, said the increase was part of a plan to overhaul the armed forces and gradually increase their size to match what he described as the current international situation and the behavior of ‘our former foreign partners,’” the wire service details. “‘For example, we now need to form new structures and military units to ensure security in the northwest (of Russia) since Finland, with which we border, has joined the NATO bloc,’ Kartapolov told Parlamentskaya Gazeta, the Russian parliament’s in-house newspaper.” Related: Will Ukraine be allowed to strike targets deep in Russia?

Diddy Combs Arrested After Grand Jury Indictment

Amid allegations of sexual trafficking and other abuse by former members of his inner circle, rapper and hip-hop producer Sean “Diddy” Combs on Monday was arrested in New York City after being indicted by a grand jury. Specific charges were not clear, but US Homeland Security officers raided Combs’ homes in late March, apparently in response to a wave of sexual abuse lawsuits filed against him.

Startling Claims: “The arrest comes as Combs continues to face serious legal trouble, most recently with a new sexual assault lawsuit filed by his former bandmate Dawn Richard last week. Richard’s suit included claims of battery, false imprisonment, withholding millions of dollars in unpaid royalties and wages, as well as stealing her copyrighted works,” The Hollywood Reporter writes. “Richard’s complaint was at least the eighth brought against him since his former girlfriend Casandra Ventura filed a lawsuit detailing years of physical and sexual abuse last year.
