A trio of people were taken into police custody in New York’s Times Square after they reportedly used a machete to stab a man in both legs.
The alleged stabbing took place at around 1 p.m., a New York Police Department spokesperson told The Associated Press. The name of the victim was not released; the man was hospitalized and is now in stable condition.
The victim is 32, according to New York NBC affiliate WNBC-TV.
An unnamed witness told the New York Daily News that the alleged stabbing occurred following a dispute over who could sell goods where. The man who was stabbed is a CD vendor.
“They were fighting and one of them had a big knife and stabbed him in his legs. There was a lot of blood,” said a vendor who was across the street from where the incident occurred.
Suspects Philip Robertson, 23, Aaron Hamilton, 25, and Robert Price, 46, each face charges of reckless endangerment and obstruction, according to the newspaper. Mr. Robertson also faces a charge of criminal possession of a weapon.
