Electric vehicle powerhouse Tesla is recalling 125,227 of its cars over a malfunctioning seat belt sensor.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Friday the issue fails to comply with federal safety guidelines and could cause more collision injuries. According to the recall, in certain instances a seat belt warning light might not turn on and the chime isn’t loud enough.
According to the NHTSA, the upcoming recall will focus on ignition and seat belt status. When the issue is fixed, the driver will be notified if the car is turned on and the driver’s seat belt is not fastened.
The recall affects Tesla’s Models S, X, 3 and Y manufactured from 2015 to 2023.
Tesla said it will deploy a software update over the internet starting in June.
Last year Tesla issued a similar seat belt-related recall on its Models X and S.
Earlier this year, Tesla issued a recall on over 200,000 of its vehicles over a software issue that could reduce driver visibility while reversing, and it recalled nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks over a faulty accelerator pedal that could come loose while operational.
