DEI is down but not out as activists pour $15M into Harris’ election

Are the corrosive diversity, equity and inclusion policies that have been pushed on us all finally in retreat, with chastened companies publicly dropping unpopular DEI policies?

Not if the well-funded Human Rights Campaign — and its preferred presidential candidate Kamala Harris — has anything to say about it.

The name sounds innocuous. After all, who could oppose a campaign for human rights?

The reality is a far-left special-interest group that’s driving the most radical of ideas into our culture — one that’s gotten its hooks into what once were considered “mainstream” organizations like the American Association of School Librarians.

And it’s well in the ear of the Democratic nominee.

Harris is trying to transform herself from a leftist who has supported fringe policies like bailing out rioters in 2020, ending private health insurance and promising sex-change operations for migrant inmates, to a lovable moderate — just in time for Election Day.

Now she’s a gun owner who is serious about protecting the border. Fracking? She loves fracking!

Yet HRC has endorsed Harris for president, and promises on its website: “We are 75 million Equality Voters strong. This November WE SHOW UP.”

In May, the group announced $15 million in swing-state spending on behalf of President Biden’s campaign, money that presumably will be spent on Harris now.

HRC President Kelley Robinson acted as a media surrogate for Harris during the Democratic National Convention, and Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, delivered an address to the group just last week.

After a series of recent high-profile defeats, HRC by all rights should be running for cover.

The Post has detailed how activist Robby Starbuck has gotten several major companies to reverse absurd DEI procedures that were pushed on them by the HRC: preferential hiring practices for minority applicants, multimillion-dollar donations to allied woke organizations, transgender-cheering workplace policies and much more.

How did HRC bend companies to its will? Through its Corporate Equality Index, a report card on how well or poorly corporations abide by HRC’s diversity criteria.

The scores are then used by big investment firms like BlackRock to decide where they should direct their considerable cash. “Without a sense of purpose,” BlackRock CEO Larry Fink wrote in 2018, any company “will ultimately lose the license to operate from key stakeholders.”

In other words, do what HRC wants, or else.

In recent weeks, after conservative consumers’ pushback, Lowes, Jack Daniels, Harley Davidson, Ford and others have announced rollbacks of their DEI policies.

“You have to be in alignment with your customers — [otherwise,] if someone else is, they’re going to eat your lunch,” Starbuck said. “Customers don’t ignore it when you’re violating their values every day.”

But unaccountable organizations like the American Association of School Librarians don’t have shareholders to answer to, and can push any agenda they want.

The librarians join with HRC for a “National Day of Reading” each year to promote “stories supporting transgender or non-binary youth.”

Promoted books include “When Aidan Became a Brother,” about a girl who decides to become a boy — marketed for kids as  young as 4.

HRC follows its in-school brainwashing by pressuring hospitals to offer the most extreme procedures to kids who declare themselves transgender.

The group’s Healthcare Equality Index, which rates hospitals in much the same way as the CEI grades companies, is partly funded by Pfizer and by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America— which both profit from transgender hormone medications.

Hospitals don’t want to get abuse from rabid activists, so they do what they must to stay on the index’s good side.

And even though some companies are beating a well-publicized retreat from DEI, the HRC website still touts dozens more that “partner” with them: Amazon, Google, Disney and many others continue to fund and boost this extremist group.

It’s easy to get distracted. News cycles move quickly, and the idea that we may be leaving the last few years of woke insanity behind is a welcome one.

Don’t be fooled: This overtly political special-interest group that has managed to insert itself into so many segments of our culture isn’t going anywhere — not as long as Harris and her allies remain in its corner.

Kamala Harris spends a lot of time attacking Donald Trump over Project 2025, despite his repeated disavowals.

But the fanatical policies pushed by the HRC appear to be more than welcome at Kamala’s table.
