Media Matters recently laid off at least a dozen staffers after a federal investigation and lawsuit by “X” CEO Elon Musk.
Several staffers, some of whom have worked for Media Matters for years, went on social media to announce their abrupt exit from the outlet. The layoffs followed federal investigations filed by Republican Attorneys General Ken Paxton of Texas and Andrew Bailey of Missouri into the media outlet for allegedly engaging in fraudulent activity by manipulating data on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Musk filed a defamation lawsuit against Media Matters in federal court back in November. X had accused the liberal site of “knowingly” fabricating images showing advertisements from major corporations next to posts made by white supremacists and neo-Nazis.
Media Matters’ staffing layoffs is the latest in the trend of liberal media mass layoffs that has grown prominent in recent years. Other outlets such as The Intercept fired 15 staffers which includies its Editor-in-Chief Roger Hodge, on the same day.
The media landscape of the 21st century is marked by an independent streak. It is not only alternative in its perspective, but also in its delivery, as creators can put out content at their own whim from their own homes and phones.
Liberal media represents a dinosaur mindset that needs to go extinct in our political discourse. It’s time for an alt media takeover.
