The notorious Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang has reportedly taken control of the Whispering Pines apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, threatening the lives of property managers and engaging in a host of violent criminal activities, according to a lawsuit obtained by CBS News.
In the lawsuit, filed by a Denver law firm representing the lender on the property, it was revealed that members of the Tren de Aragua gang had actively attempted to kill property managers who opposed their takeover. One property manager with over 15 years of experience said he had never encountered anything like the gang’s dominance over Whispering Pines in his entire career.
The gang’s brutal methods escalated in 2024, with threats of murder, extortion, violent assaults, and even child prostitution taking place in the apartment complex. In April 2024, a housekeeper alerted a property manager that gang members were coming to kill him, and two armed members of the Tren de Aragua were arrested on their way to carry out the threat. In another instance, a tenant was stabbed for refusing to pay “rent” to the gang, further highlighting their grip on the building and its residents.

Adding to the chaos, the gang allegedly hosts drug-fueled parties in vacant units where child prostitution takes place. According to the property manager, when confronted, the gang members coldly referred to these crimes as “business.” The situation has become so dire that it prompted the Perkins Coie law firm to send a nine-page report detailing the extent of the gang’s control to Aurora’s Mayor Mike Coffman, City Manager Jason Batchelor, and the interim police chief. The report outlined the gang’s involvement in human trafficking, assaults, firearm possession, and other crimes that target vulnerable Venezuelan immigrants living in the complex.
As the investigation continues, Aurora’s community is left grappling with the terrifying reality of gang control in the city, as residents and property management fear for their lives.
