During Tuesday night’s presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), ABC moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis tried to correct statements by President Trump seven different times, while fact-checking Harris zero times.

As reported by Breitbart, most of the 7 instances of “fact-checking” were incorrect or missing crucial context.

The first and most glaring example was when Davis told Trump that “there is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born,” despite the fact that former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (D-Va.) explicitly said that his abortion policy would allow for post-birth abortions if the mother chose to do so.

Muir then responded to President Trump’s remarks on Springfield, Ohio, where a surge of 20,000 Haitians has led to widespread complaints from citizens that their pets are being stolen and eaten by the illegals for food. Muir said that “ABC News did reach out to the city manager there,” and that “he told us there have been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed,” to which President Trump simply responded “we’ll see.”

Muir also falsely claimed that “the FBI says overall violent crime is coming down in this country,” and deflected from President Trump’s answer on January 6th, 2021 by saying that “the question was about you as president, not about Former Speaker Pelosi,” after Trump correctly pointed out that Pelosi denied his requests for extra security around the Capitol that day.

When President Trump said that he had been sarcastic in his remarks “admitting” that he lost the 2020 election, Muir responded by saying that “I did watch all of these pieces of video. I didn’t detect the sarcasm.” He then used this to address Harris by saying “so he still believes he did not lose the election,” before then falsely claiming that the election “was won by President Biden and yourself.”

Lastly, Muir responded to President Trump’s statement that Harris attempted to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin over tensions in Ukraine, only for the war to begin just three days later. Muir then gave Harris a chance to respond, saying “Vice President Harris, have you ever met Vladimir Putin, can you clarify tonight?”

Despite the disadvantage of going against two biased moderators, President Trump’s debate performance was still well-received, with numerous polls showing that viewers believed he was the winner of the night. Focus groups conducted immediately after the debate showed that undecided voters were mostly swayed towards Trump.
