MSNBC’s Ari Melber became the latest left-wing pundit to cast doubt on the outcome of Manhattan District Attorney Bragg’s dubious case against former President Donald Trump when he shared his thoughts on the cross examination of disgraced lawyer Michael Cohen.

On Monday and Tuesday, Cohen portrayed a narrative of a $130,000 payment meant to silence Daniels about her alleged affair with Trump, ostensibly to prevent any damage to Trump’s presidential campaign

Cohen — a convicted perjurer and fraudster — is serving as Bragg’s “star witness” in the case that has been heavily criticized by legal scholars. Todd Blanche, an attorney for former President Trump, has pointed to Cohen’s criminal convictions, anti-Trump statements made on podcasts and documented instances of lying when questioning his credibility.

According to Ari Melber — a fierce Trump critic who was in the courtroom on Thursday — the proceedings are not going well for the prosecution. “I think the punches are building cumulatively. I think Tuesday there were bruises and today there’s blood to extend the metaphor,” Melber said.

“I think the collective view is these are moments the jury will remember, and they are instilling or adding possible doubts about Michael Cohen’s long-term credibility. As I think everyone knows by now is part of the trial,” Melber went on to say. “The question is this; has he changed his mind and retracted things? Both sides agree on that, that’s not in doubt. The question is does this guy still lie, and if he does still lie at anything little, medium or large, can you trust him?”

The MSNBC host went on to concede that jurors are likely trying to determine whether Cohen lies so frequently, that he has no credibility whatsoever.

“Okay, do we have to be convinced that he lied about everything? The standard for the jury, and why Blanche is making some progress is, by the end of this does the jury have reasonable doubt about co-entailing the truth on elements of the crime,” Melber said, adding that Trump’s defense team is “landing blows.”

Bragg’s case has been consistently condemned by legal scholars.

The Manhattan D.A. used COVID-era policies to expand the statute of limitations on an administrative payment error, which is generally a misdemeanor. Bragg then upgraded the charge to a felony, citing a “conspiracy” to commit another crime. The other crime has never been specified by Bragg even though the trial has been ongoing for weeks.

Instead, the prosecution has called on the publisher of the National Enquirer, a tabloid known for publishing fake stories, Cohen and adult film star Stormy Daniels as witnesses.
