“I Was Gonna Be”: Nashville Hitmaker Teams with 18-Year-Old Star for Powerful Pro-Life Song from Perspective of Baby

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Breitbart news, Nashville songwriter Christ Wallin explained the story and impulse behind the new single he helped create: “I Was Gonna Be.” The moving song is a pro-life anthem told through the point of view of an aborted baby, making it a quite powerful and moving piece of music.

Speaking about the song and why he created it, Wallin, who wrote songs for huge country hits like Toby Keith and Kenny Chensy, said, “I just wanted people to hear the voice of the voiceless.” Continuing, he explained that he thinks God helped with the song and message, saying, “I truly believe this is a God thing that happened.”

Continuing, he explained how he thought it would be impossible to find someone to sing it given the content and message, saying, “I started writing this song for myself. I didn’t think anyone would have the courage to sing this.” However, he was able to find a singer. He realized as much right away when he met 18-year-old Rachel Holt, a newcomer to the country music industry from Indiana.

Explaining how Ms. Holt got on board with singing “I Was Gonna Be,” Wallin said, “I played her the song and her first words, she goes, ‘I’m singing that song.” Walling went on to add that Ms. Holt told him, after hearing the song, “I think a lot of the songs that girls my age listen to never talk about real life. And that’s what I want to do.”

Wallin then went on to explain that he told Ms. Holt that singing “I Was Gonna Be” would carry significant risk for her as a musician. He told her that “there are people who are going to be visceral about this song — on both sides. Good and bad.” She was apparently not dissuaded by his warnings and, when he was done, told him, “I don’t care.”

Duly impressed by her dedication to her values and willingness to risk her career with a song, Wallin said, “She’s 18 years old and she’s 100 percent traditional values and she isn’t scared to talk and sing about it.” He continued, “And that’s so important these days. Everything that’s going on, to have a young woman perform this song is all the more important.”

Wallin went on to explain how he faced many difficulties in releasing and promoting the song, with many failures necessary before his tireless efforts finally paid off. He said, “We did not leave one stone unturned when it came to calling up and talking to pro-life groups. None of them would get on board with us with this at the end.” Wallin said. Eventually, he found a partner in Patriot Mobile. He was, however, able to find a partner for the song’s release in pro-life phone company Patriot Mobile. He said, “It took a mobile company that is pro-life over pro-life companies to actually get involved.”

Explaining what the experience taught him, Wallin told Breitbart, “We need to stick together because that’s what the left is doing.” He added that the far-left has a huge step up in the culture war because its omnipresence and near-complete control of the entertainment industry “is huge in a young person’s mind — that’s a huge influence, and we need to combat that.”

In stepping up and singing the song, Ms. Holt was hugely different from woke Taylor Swift who, when Roe v. Wade was overturned in the Dobbs decision, said, “I’m absolutely terrified that this is where we are – that after so many decades of people fighting for women’s rights to their own bodies, today’s decision has stripped us of that.”

Woke singer Olivia Rodrigo did much the same thing, claiming, in a speech at one of her concerts after the Dobbs decision, “so many women and so many girls are gonna die because of this.” Watch her freak out over Dobbs here:
